Program Information


The Medical Assistant PLUS certificate program prepares students for a career as a medical assistant. Skills sets gained are medical assisting, clinical skills, clerical and administrative procedures including reception and scheduling, medical terminology, electronic charting, clinical testing, basic pharmacology, HIPAA training, and CPR certification.


Monday-Friday 9AM - 3PM


This program runs for up to 30 weeks, depending on their individualized learning plan.

Includes internship and job search and placement.

Training includes the following skills and services:

- Entry level keyboarding skills

- Word processing, spreadsheets,     database management

- Financial literacy and math for         Medical Assistants

- Employability skills: applications,     resumes, cover letters, job               search  and interviewing 

- Patient and Customer Service         workshop 


Who is eligible?

- High School Diploma or GED

- Pass a BCI background check 

- Students motivated to learn new     skills and start an entry level position in the medical field.

An internship in a healthcare setting is included.  Job search, coaching, and support services are provided to employee and employer.

RIC Outreach Programs are available to qualified students in need of training and employment, including clients of the Rhode Island
Department of Labor & Training (DLT), the Department of Human
Services Family Independence Program (DHS), and the Office of
Rehabilitative Services (ORS). Other potential funding sources may apply.


​Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act funded training may be provided only to individuals who qualify for the program, and only if funds are available.
